[We now interrupt my current obsession with all things wedding to insert something I wrote a few weeks ago and never remembered to switch over from "draft" status. The sales mentioned below are good for a few more weeks, so better late than never!]
Earlier today I finally checked out YesStyle.com. I use its sister site, YesAsia.com, for my Japanese craft book buying sprees, but until today had never explored the clothing end of the company. They sucked me in at last with their First Anniversary specials -- free express shipping with a $99 purchase, and $10 off a $30 purchase if you use the code "YESSTYLE10" at checkout. (Both until 8/31.) Plus, there's a bunch of stuff on sale. And knowing you're wearing / gifting something truly unusual? Priceless.
My favorite item was these shoes by Mizutori. On sale for $78. Which is more than I usually pay for shoes ('cause I'm a cheapskate -- er, bargain queen). But these supposedly boost your chi and surely that adds value?:
Also loved this $30 tote bag from Buden Akindo. Even the pocket is adorable. Though I'm always a bit nervous when I carry around something without any idea what it says:
After all, it could be sporting randomness like when Japanese wear tries to use English. An example -- this t-shirt made me laugh because there really IS a corner of Connecticut Ave. and Calvert St. It's near the Washington Zoo. But I can more or less guarantee there's never been a motor inn on that spot! (Nor do I know what "American Space Craft" has to do with that or anything else....):
One brand that was a big hit with me is called Rootote. They offer perfect little cell phone cases for $10 and shopping totes that are mostly $12-20. What great gifts (if I could bear to part with them!):
Rootote phone case, $10; large shopper, $20; medium tote bag, $15; and tote bag, $18.
And then of course there are many beautifully spare, modern clothes. But in the end, I held back from any purchases because I'm feeling broke from wedding purchases. (And of course it doesn't help that the clothing sizes are Asian-tiny and I'm a Northern European Amazon....) But if you've ever purchased from YesStyle, or if you wind up taking advantage of their summer specials, please do share your thoughts!
